Default 1972 LT-1 valve cover value

What would a pair of Aluminum valve covers from a 1972 LT-1 with the rubber oil cap be worth. They are used but not damaged.

I donated a pair for a St. Jude benefit on this forum, and the winning bid was $80. They were used, but refinished by me with black wrinkle finish and new sticker, cap, rubber grommets, two sets of nib gaskets and a calendar, too.

Hi Mick,
The set in your picture have the twist in chrome oil filler cap.
The set that Ralph is asking about has the push in rubber oil filler plug.
They're a bit more unusual to find for sale especially in 'un-restored' condition.
Regards,
Alan

Most swap meets have them for anywhere between $70 to $150...depending on condition.

Hi Ralph,

The covers on my LT-!, I believe have been slightly polished? I would love to see what your covers look like. Perhaps Alan can help share a photo?

Regards,

Kevin

Here's the driver's side pic of the LT-1 covers I had that I put on my '75. The L48 covers had been chromed and were pitted. If I could find a similar pair for $75, I'd buy them in a heartbeat. Most pairs I see are $150-$250.

Midshark, Your alternator brace is on wrong. That is why it is hitting the upper radiator hose.

Ralph;

They are easily worth $100 plus. The "plus" part depends on condition, but since they are two year only covers, and a must have for a 71 or 72 LT-1 car, I personally would start at $200 and see what the traffic will bare. Good luck with them.

Not wrong per say....it's just attached incorrectly. The brace belongs on the rear side of the alt. with the WB bolt head facing the driver.

I have that rubber plug type on my 69. They were on it when I got the car. Supposed to have the eared oil cap but they're pretty close so I guess I'll leave them at least until I find a correct set. Camaro guys might want them too.

Hi,
They do make a very pretty set of valve covers…. even when incorrectly restored!

Alan

I'd love to take a boat load of cash, and a trip to Ralphs garage!

Hmm... I must have had a brain fart when I initially put things back together a year and a half ago and then took all of the pictures. I can vaguely recall messing with it shortly thereafter, because it is on there correctly now.
