Can someone recommend a place that does custom interior dye colors? My 72 has a custom blue dye that is not a factory blue. I need to replace the dash pad but will need a custom dye matched up. Looking for a place that I can send a trim part to them in tomatch it up.
By "local auto paint store", I believe that is meant as a professional auto body paint supplier....not a local auto parts store. Most of the pro paint providers have custom mixed vinyl dye available. I MUCH prefer SEM products; but other name-brand product are also very good.
Buy it in liquid form and have it mixed to your color code (or matched to a part you bring in). Spray with your equipment or purchase inexpensive Pre-Val bottle sprayer at the same store. One $10 sprayer and 4-5 extra gas canisters + 1 quart of dye will do your entire interior [with some extra left over for later touch-ups].
Take a panel off the car and bring it with you to a good auto paint supplier. Have them mix some Dupont vinyl color to match. Stir it up real good before you use it.
It works very well, have had great results with it.
All good info. I was taking a close look at my interior and I can see 3 different colors of blue. To the average looker it is hard to tell but I can. I think I am going to change the interior to black now though. Does the SEM or Dupont require a primer?

SEM does require an adhesion promoter to be used, don't know about DuPont but would be surprised if they didn't. You'll want to use something to clean the everloving crap out of it first.
When new, the C3 cars (and about every other Detroit vehicle) ALL had interior panels that 'almost' matched. Different suppliers provided different interior parts and they all TRIED to get the same color. Very difficult to do, if you don't use the same coloring agent at the same time.
But, your interior will look better if all the panels match.
P.S. I have NEVER used any primer or adhesion promoter with SEM vinyl dyes, and have never had any problem.
Since a lot of the people posting here have experience with color dyes, what is your feeling on dying a dark blue door panel with red dye? Do you think I should use a primer, so that the red doesn't come out too dark?
I too have used SEM vinyl dye with much success, and I love the matte finish that it produces, as it is not overly glossy. However, I have only used black. Opinions would be appreciated...
