Being a machinist who has worked with different types of metal....that looks like a "chemical spill"----which you have ruled out.

The other possibilities are...........the manufacturer received a "bad batch" of stainless steel....or as one member said---the metal was stressed with too much heat when the pipes were formed......or.....they've been plated over poor quality stainless.

The manufacturer/Vendor should have taken those back without question because quality stainless 304 or 316 will keep it's finish for decades with normal cleaning/polishing.

Like members said....a lean carb will cause discoloration (faster)

Back in the day on a tuned (Harley) engine, exhaust pipe discoloration was a "badge"........Blue/70mph.....Purple/100mph....Gold/

OOOOOOOOOOOOPS! Back to the original subject!

I've never seen a set of Hookers that don't rust eventually. I have super comps on my BOSS, and they rusted over right away, but I don't care, they work great.

I purchased a set of unequal length Heddman side pipe headers from a fellow member and modified them to clear the AC housing, they are the only set that didn't need major surgery. Not as visually pretty as the chrome Hookers, but effective for my purposes.

My side pipes are home made using 4' pipe incorporating a 26' glasspack on each side, 2.5' I.D. Minimal back pressure and acceptable music level!

to answer your question, albeit a bit later... max flows are the ones to avoid.

here's what they look like inside

they utterly kill top end hp... with that said, glass packs reduced the number of times my wife will ride with me.

Truly not intending to contradict you - but I have Hooker stainless side pipes with the hooker brand max flows - my Max Flows are a straight-through glasspack type muffler, with a larger center tube (2" if I recall correctly). Those don't look anything like what I have on my car.

The Max flows definitely are loud compared to other inserts - but probably better than no inserts. They sound great with both my 383 and 406. Can't wait to hear them with the 427 SBC I'm getting ready now.....

Bent header.....that SUCKS greatly!

Make UPS refund the price of ONE header....but you get to keep the pair..............straighten and polish the bent tube.....

WIN/WIN!

No problem. Really, why would you take pics of them anyway? I understand.
