I don't care for the looks of flares on C3s but I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out that this one has flares even though I've seen pictures of it a number of times. Understated flares like that don't look out of place at all.
Yeah well I dont like pink c3's ... couldn't resist,
I am not stock expect but the flares that were on the rear of my 69 were they really any bigger at the top than later c3's I think just the lower kick out is bigger, but those rear quarters are no longer with us,
also In a zemblanity moment I hit up the fellow doing my frame swap and told him the stop the presses, do not install the ZL-1 flares.
More on all that after end of month when I get to update my bats build thread, but yeah, I am still going for a old school road race look
Status Update: I went to Kingman, AZ to see what was going on with my 69 Chevy Shortbed that is being restored and found a Body Shop called Dream Machines that another guy on the Forum said I need to check out and took him the Corvette and since order alot of parts from Paragon and the work has started on the Corvette. He took off the 73/74 clip and told me it came off in great shape and is saving the crate so I can put the 73/74 clip for shipping. While the front clip is off we are going to install the AC which will be easier. I got a new Compressor for the 94 LT1 Corvette engine and only thing I needed was the POA value and hoses. I will be getting some pictures of the old 73/74 front fiberglass. The shop owner has worked on corvettes for over 20 years and worked for Paragon for over 10 years. Will keep you posted on the work.
My question is can a 69 front clip be installed on a 73 frame??? Please advise and Thanks in Advance.
Bud
I have exact experience with this question. In 1979, I ordered a new frame from GM parts for my 69 Corvette. The order form clearly showed a purchase of a 69 new frame. I received the frame after a couple of months......make a long story short....About 6 years ago (2009?), I decided to use this frame for a frame build up of my 70. The 69 and 70 frames are identical. The frame extension horns didn't fit!!! I had "fits" trying to understand why. After a lot of telephone calls, Volunteer Vette, a CF sponsor, had the answer. In 1979, if you ordered a new frame for a 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, ...you were shipped a 73 frame. For a body shop, they have to fit the frame extension horns to the front bumpers and they wont' match. They have to redrill two holes in the frame extension horns to make them fit a 73 frame to a 69 bumper system. For a body shop, this will be no problem at all. You can then mate a 69 front clip to a 73 frame easily.
About those pesky frame extension horns that ultimately attach the front bumper to the frame. The 68 frame extension horns are different than the 69 through 72. The differences are just the hole mounting differences...redrilling can solve problems.

Front clip has been installed now and car is about to be primer.
They are a little larger on the Paragon one, but the first 69 example was obviously used, you can see the marks from the special toothed washers on it and someone really opened up the holes. I'm just trying to keep you guys straight. Lou.
The holes do look a little oblong and out of shape. Looks like someone started out with the bracket that had the small holes and rotary filed the holes.

Update. The corvette is done and I couldn't be more Happy. The wait was worth it and the cost. Will post pictures later. Thanks for all the help and advise I received from fellow Forum Members.
What I am going to ask next might be over stepping and if it is I fully understand and just tell me that you do not want to share that information but unlike you I have had some super bad luck with the last few shops/techs I have dealt with, all kinds of things ranging from just dropping the ball to promised due dates being missed by months and damage happening to my car even taxing 30 year friendships.
I also can not deal with the ego driven shops who want to be overbearing and insist the customer build their car the shops way.
So I am curious, with your shop what is the list of work you asked them to do?
how much was their fee?
What was the agreed time frame for the job?
I can see that back in the days back in 72/73 to have the latest style front Clip with the longer soft nose was the latest and cool! If you car had the Chrome bumpers, then it was just the "old Modell" Vette. We see this all diffrent now, since all of These cars are more than 40 Years old and Vintage collectors. But back then when your car was just three to four years old if you had a 68/69, then there was nothing vintage but all you had was the old Modell C3. I talked to a guy who wanted to buy a C3 new in late 1970, and he waited on purpose for the "new 73" Modell with the longer soft nose to be released... I told him why did you do that the Chrome bumper is more collectible now, and he said back then it was just the outdated Modell with the OLD Chrome bumpers...
