Default Torque Converter Questions

I am rebuilding this 1973 L48 engine because it came with the car from the factory, and have a couple of questions.

Is the paint job on this converter original (or typical) from those produced at that time?







And sometime in it's life, a little rain fell.





I think it will be OK to use as is. Do you?

It looks pretty solid, although if I were going through with it, I'd probably replace it.

New ones start at $20, and SFI-approved ones start at $50. SFI is of some importance to me.

Nope. That's from a previous owner. For AT cars, flywheels were installed at St. Louis and did not get engine paint.

Looks like something impacted the side of those teeth. If there are no cracks around the root areas of those teeth, it appears to be a servicable piece. You may want to bump-grind any areas of "high" metal at the edges of those two damaged teeth.

That's not a converter. It would be a flex plate.
