[QUOTE=jtl1567;1588926129]im going to take it into a transmission shop and see what they can figure out. could it possibly be the kick down cable? how do you adjust that cable?[/QUOTE
First you must determine why the transmission downshifts and you slow down, presumably with the same throttle position. Is the transmission slipping? You can feel that. You also state you changed the transmission fluid, were there metal shavings in the pan or on the magnet? Lot's of clutch dust? Did the fluid smell burnt?
Good luck solving the problem

i did change the fluid and no shaving or anything it seemed pretty clean actually. i dont think its slipping out of gear.

Actually it will slip between gears, and when they start doing this the transmission won't last long. I'd sure get a couple of opinions before I did any transmission work. Just my 2 cents worth....
I don't know where the transmission kickdown cable (possibly linkage) is on these vehicles. It is unusual for them to need adjusting.
Well the transmission is ok! the engine was not creating very much vacuum due to some plugged valves! a couple hours in the shop and its running great!
Good to see all of these posts-was worried I might have transmission issues as well, but will look at these lines first. I'm getting more of a 'clunking' into gears at times though...
