Hi Ray,
I put a folded towel in the tray and that seems to stop the rattle.
Plus, my wife would put the towel on her lap to stop from getting dripped on while it was raining.
Regards,
Alan
Seems to me when last I looked it was sometime in mid-March of 71 they went from Alan's style with the spot for a push-button molded in but still used the same latches as the 70, then went to the 72 and final style with the push button.
OldGTO has (had?) a 71 with the pushbutton release
5 years, 4 different trays

Yes, mine has the push button.

My tray had some small rubber bumpers to hold it from rattling.
right! There were several, specifically placed, black & square rubber bumpers stuck onto the tray that prevented the window from shifting and rattling. Those were self-stick items, and the stick-um went away pretty quickly.
My early '72 window tray has the pushbutton....
Interesting, I didn't know at one time the tray used a handle. Kind of nice, and probably easier to used than the button!
Hi,
I believe the rubber pads were adhered to the underside of the rear deck below and a bit to the rear the window.
From their placement it appears their purpose was to stop the tray from rattling since they don't contact the window if it's in the tray.
Here's 2 of the 3 from my 71. You can see the imprint the tray left in them. They're quite dense and black in color. The reproduction pads available are more of a foam rubber and gray in color.

Alan
On my mid-January 71 tray this is the only accommodation to contain the window.
Hi Paul,
WELL!!!
That's interesting… my current copy of the AIM shows the spring clip/handle.
It looks like the sheet was originally drawn 3-25-70.
There are 2 revisions listed on mine…5-14-70 and 6-17-70.
Does yours show further revisions?
I'd think so?!?
What are your last 4 digits? Mine are 6589.
Regards,
Alan
Hi Alan,
My Serial # is 108644.
The applicable sheet in my AIM is UPC1-F19. It has a PREL date of 3-25-70 and a CK date of 4-2-70. The revision record shows changes of 9-11-70 , 9-24-70 and 4-1-71. The 9-11-70 revision lists a SYM "3" and the REVISION RECORD shows "REDRAWN & REDESIGNED". However, I can't find a circled 3 anywhere on the sheet like I can for the following 3-6 symbols associated with the other two minor revisions. I'm thinking that means the entire sheet was redrawn and redesigned for the 9-11-70 change...
Hi Paul,
That's very interesting!
That means there are 2 slightly different versions of the 71 AIM in use…. an earlier and a later.
That's something I don't even want to begin to consider!
Thanks!
Regards,
Alan

If that`s the case... seems that vendors reproducing the AIM would (or should?) include BOTH pages.... with the earliest first, then the revised.
Don't forget, this all depends on which version that the vendor saved, or got his hands on.
All I know is that Mid America Enterprises was the first one to offer them and my 68 and 69 AIM have Chevrolet drafting graphic at the top of every page. They also have a table of contents at the front, but the pages are numbered slightly differently than the new 68 more legible copy, that I bought from ZIP that came from Corvette America, about three years ago. Lou.
Hi Paul,
That's interesting.
I've never really considered that there might be different versions available.
I just looked at the NCRS store to see if there was any indication of the source for the AIMs they're selling but I don't see anything.
I'm on my third and the three have been from Corvette America.
?

Alan
Never thought about it before; guess I thought an AIM was an AIM (for a particular model year). It does make sense that during the production year AIMs were revised as changes to the product were made. I guess that which AIM versions venders sell depends on when and how they came to procure their AIM copy...
At least now I'll know to ask forum members if their AIMs have any info not in my AIM version. The window shelf latch changes during the production run is a good example. My later version AIM doesn't show the actual configuration of my mid-year car. If it was something more important or intricate, I'd have to ask someone for a copy of their earlier AIM...
