Been in and out of hospital for past year so couldn't start car until two weeks ago.Worked beautifully last year before I was sick. Area where I live is humid on Gulf Coast of Texas.Car always garaged. Will start. Can't get into any gear. Is shift linkage frozen due to rust? Is pressure plate not releaseing ? or something other?? HELP !!!
other clutch issue.
Something similar happened to me but not after sitting after a test drive it was like the shifter was stuck. I rolled it a little and played with shifter until it shifted smoothly that was over 2 years ago and the issue has yet to show itself nor does anyone know what it coulda been
Hold the clutch down to the floor and see if you can push the car. If the car rolls , the clutch disc is not stuck . If it is not stuck tight this will probably break it loose. Might just be that the trans needs jogged a little to engage the teeth.
That's happened a couple of time on my 79 after storage over the winter.
Clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel.
Put in in neutral and push it away from any wall or other things of value.
I put mine in reverse and with the clutch pedal depressed turn the key to start. It will jump backwards but has always freed up after one or two tries.
Be careful!
That's true but he said everything worked fine before he went into the hospital. Now if someone was using the car during that time ?
Linkage can be "squirrely" at times.....mine locked up at a traffic light once.....NOTHING made it pop back into place....had to have it towed and the linkage rebuilt....it was fine after that.
Also....a manual trans. that is low on oil will not shift sometimes!
But I'm not saying that's the problem....just a possibility.
