Default 69 Frame rot pictures

This is what happens when you let a C3 with 70k miles sit outside on a concrete slab.

It apparently has seen a lot more than sitting on a concrete slab. If the car was from Pittsburgh it has also seen a lot of salt road driving and abuse. Stick a fork in that one . It's done !

Hi d,
Yikes!
Can you imagine how many holes sand blasting would likely blow into that!
How long do you think it was out there?
Regards,
Alan

Forgot to say. 25 years on a concrete slab! Half in and out of the sun. The entire driver side that was out of the sun was broken bolts and cans of wd40. It's apparent that water was trapped inside the frame and was never able to dry. I used an inspection cam to check the bird cage and she is in amazing shape. Surprisingly. All of the frame damage was that whole rail. The rest of the frame was usable. I did purchase a 69 Texas frame that was rust free. I had it sent to the sandblaster inside and out. The guy I got the frame from took mine in on trade. Which helped.

Also. Yes the car is from Pittsburgh. #229 sent to beaver PA with factory side pipes. My dad purchased it in 71 from the original owner. He drove it till about 77 and parked it inside. Was taken from inside and parked in my front driveway About 91. The brakes froze and it sat Till I put it in my garage. The factory t-arm bumpers were in great shape with absolutely no wear on them. Telling me this car was not beat on.

Hi d,
That's interesting……an automatic car with side exhaust!
I wonder how often that happened?
Regards,
Alan

It doesnt take many doses of salt to do that over time. A little salt in the frame and all of that moisture you have sitting in there had plenty of time to corrode that steel.
Thats why around here we dont take our good cars out until it rains hard a few times to wash the salt off the roads. It tends to get into spots that you cant wash out and rots everything. Im used to rusty bolts that are so bad they need to be cut off or drilled out to remove.

Surface rust. No pitting. As far as my camera would go. All looked good. I bought 2 cans of eastwood internal frame coating. I am going to spray them down soon

Wow! I'm wondering if even a steel recycling yard would take it.
