Changing out my front sway bar for a heavier one and adding a rear sway bar on my 1975 l48. Do the nuts on the end links need to be torqued?
If so does anyone have the spec's to what they need to be torqued too??
Hi d,
In the 71 AIM the torque for the std front sway bar link nut is listed as 10-20 lbs.ft..
So perhaps the same for your heavier one. I'd think the torque is really just to compress the bushings a certain amount.
Regards,
Alan
With a heavier front bar and a rear bar on your car you should probably get some extra insurance for your kidneys and bladder. Just kidding you!
You want to tighten those nuts till all of the 'slop' is out of the parts stack, then squeeze down the rubbers so all is firm. You do NOT want to overtighten and overstress the rubber pieces. They take the shock out of the torsion bar operation.
