Default Lighter

This maybe a dumb question, but im putting my interior back together on my 73 and might lighter doesn't work. The element is deteriorated and I want to replace the unit. How do I remove it from the console? When I try to unscrew it, it just rotates. Is there something im missing? does it screw on?

Check this out. couldn't find anything specific for a 73 but probably (just guessing) the same for a 77.

By the looks of this...which I have seen many times...it will need to be disassembled....and even if it comes out...you may find that you may destroy it and need a new retainer.

All - thanks for the info. This one I might just leave alone. It's not something I need, I was just trying to get "everything" working. Might not be worth breaking this one. I already have a list of items I have broken trying to restore this car. Thanks again.

I ended up destroying my lighter socket trying to get it out. I guess the 2 pieces were seized.

Sometimes when you want to remove a part, order a replacement part and look how it's made.

Easier to check the AIM page showing the installation.

Try unscrewing the parts from the bottom to see if that does anything for you.

You might as well just do a frame off restoration now. That's how most are started.

You need to hold the inner part (part that barely sticks out on the other side of your picture) and unscrew the thin metallic outer shell. It's just threaded on.

YEAH...I WISH they would un-thread easily...but the way the one in the photo looks with the corrosion....I seriously doubt it will un-thread easily.

I hope it does...but I spend about 2 minutes on it and if it dopes not come apart...new parts are installed....because for me...spending a half an hour messing with something like this costs more than new parts.
