I have imported a 1979 corvette into Australia and on collecting this car, it had a paint problem on the front R/H guard, it looked to me as if there has been an object dropped against the guard which created a bubbly effect in the paint, which looks like the top of fingers on your hand.
The importer is telling me, that this damage was caused by condensation and humidity when the car was in the container crossing the equator. I said to the importer that i find this hard to believe as the car was owned by someone in Nevada.
Now can anyone give me some advice as to weather this would happen, or is he just trying to get out of fixing this problem. He told me that he had spoken to a machanic who restores old cars and that is where he said he got info, my reply was, why dont you ask a guy who spray paints cars for a living as he would be better qualified.
I`m certainly no paint expert... but I`d think bubbles in the paint would more likely be caused by oils or contaminants leeching up through the fiberglass.... indicating improper preparation during a previous re-paint.... OR oils splashed or sprayed on the underside coming through?
Hi g,
This must be a bit disappointing for you but at least the car arrived safely otherwise.
Without a picture it's really impossible to make even a guess as to what has happened and when.
Picture?

alan
If the damage wasn't there when the importer took possession and it showed up before you took possession, the responsibility to fix it is with the importer, regardless of why it happened. His responsibility is to get the vehicle to the new owner in the SAME condition as when it was shipped. Bubbles due to humidity? Well, I guess the importer should have put descicant packs in with the car.
