I am cleaning the underside , with the body off.
My number 4 mounts came off quite easy. lots of rust and dirt.
I have the replacements. I am cleaning the outside and inside of that area.
I saw on the forums here a while ago that someone used some "stuff" between the mount and the body so where was no holes at all that water can get into. Search but I couldn't find it.
Also should I rivet them in or just bolt them in?
Can anyone recommend anything else to do there.
Hi D76,
Some people use 3M Strip Sealer do do what you're thinking of.
You can certainly use bolts and nuts which is easier but not how it was done originally.

Alan
Hi Dirk76, if you are going to rivet the supports back onto the car then yes you will need a air gun. I would also recommend that it have a adjustable air adjustment on the bottom to regulat the amount of air (not to much). It is very difficult to get to some of them so I would also suggest an off set bit. You can get them from Aircraft Spruce. Not a fun job but doable.
Good Luck

I'm curious what people use on the flat side if the rivets. A bucking bar or just a hammer face? I remember that there was a tool that put the rings into the face like the originals too.

I used an assortment of bucking bars in different sizes and shapes.

The cleco pins are a must also for the parts that need to be held tight to the body.
Great info...I am getting ready to do the same thing tomorrow and wasn't sure about the rivets, almost used the hand installer. Dirk76 please post your results. thanks
