Shifter Maintenance

I have the engine and transmission out of the car. While I have access, is there any attention I should give to the shifter? It's a little crusty, so I figured it needs something. It's the B-W 4spd.

I don't have it back together yet but mine was so sloppy we decided to just replace it.

The new one is pretty nice though with new rods.

Worn linkage bushings and rods need to be replaced. That will tighten things up. Mechanism needs to be degreased and re-lubed with white lithium grease.
