Default A/C Compressor Problem

The A/C compressor suddenly stopped operating. Refrigerant levels and pressures okay. Blower works in all speeds when manually selected. Blower does not automatically come on at Low speed with A/C selected (it should according to the manual). When compressor hot wired directly to alternator output, the compressor operates normally. Heater and blower fuses are okay. I sprayed electrical contact cleaner on the "S2" switch. The best I can tell, the S2 switch allows power to both the blower and compressor when the A/C mode is selected to Max A/C. The only thing left is the Thermal switch (which I did not check), but this switch in warm climates is normally closed. A closed thermal switch completes the circuit to the compressor. The compressor ground is good. The only thing left is maybe a broken wire???

I have been using the Corvette Four Season Wiring Diagram on pg 1A-71 for reference out of the Chassis Service Manual.

Does anyone have any other toubleshooting suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom

Jump the thermal switch to test it. Use a test light on the S1 and S2 switches.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Mel,

I cannot reach the thermal switch. However, if I could run a continuity test between the DG compressor wire and the tan wire at S2, wouldn't that test suffice for a closed thermal switch? Then perhaps my problem circuit would be between terminal 6 of the fan switch (gray wire) and S2???

Tom

an ohm meter between tan s2 and dg is a valid test for the thermal switch

Thanks, I wanted to check before I go to Fry's to get longer leads or build alligator clip extensions for the volt/ohm meter.

Default Problem Solved!

Ordered a new Heater/AC controller. Discovered the small contact strip on the old S1 switch had gone AWOL.

New AC control module on the left, old controller on the right.
