Here is a pic of my 73' I am thinking of changing out those bullet style mirrors to the original chrome ones. I am not keen on this style plus the drivers side cable is messed up and I can't adjust it to my liking to drive an actually see. I do not believe these are original to 73' and think they make it look more like a later 70's model. Thoughts???
I had the bullet aka "sports mirrors" on my 71 GTO, so they are period correct.
Not too hard to pull em off and check the cable (might need to lube it). If you go with the chrome mirrors, your going to have a hole in your door panel - no remote adjusting them. I do remember, that sometimes I had to push on my mirror to get it exactly where I wanted it.
Try some WD-40 and see if it improves.
FWIW: sport mirrors mount with two studs; chrome mirrors use wellnuts. If you remove the sport mirrors, you will probably have to fill the two mounting holes and do paint touch up.
Thanks for the heads up, I figured it wouldn't be as easy as it seemed. The current drivers side is pretty stuck and when I push (pretty hard) to adjust it, it bounces back. I am going to try getting back there with some WD-40 next. I really wanted to put those chrome mirrors on for aesthetics but I might think twice now, at least until my planned repaint. Thanks for the info, as always this forum is the best.

While purists like what came on it, the chrome stalk mirrors I do not care for them at all.
The factory bullets look way better to me, but on my 69 I run these that most people do not like...
Bats, how about posting a pic of your 69 with those mirrors you're talking about. Am sure other would like to see them on a C3.
Um yeah aw..jeez okay...lol, just got my poor car home...
My car has no front clip at the moment here are a couple older shots and another custom with the same mirror...not great pix..

Thanks for your time
With a fresh detail April 15'
I'm with you I was wanting to change mine back like it was before someone put the bullet style on my car. But like I just read about filling holes and paint has put an end to that I guess I will live with it.

That is a very nice-looking 1973. Love the green! Leave it alone. Just find out why the adjustment mechanism is not working well. Could be just some WD-40 needed.
I often times get asked to do what is being talked about in this thread.
And many of the cars have really nice paint jobs. Either the sport mirrors do not provide a good view due to the supports are too short for that year model...or the owner just does not like the look.
And understand that there is a little bit of a 'trade-off'. When I remove the sport mirror and clean up the mounting area. I look and see how much of the paint has been marred due to the plastic gasket from the sport mirror. Sometimes it cleans up really well. And on some...not so well. But what I have done is make a thin spacer that I can paint to either match the body color or paint it black to match the gasket for the new chrome mirror.
I then install a new steel mounting bracket inside the door so the chrome mirror mounting base can be attached and put this thin shaped spacer in between the body and the mounting plate for the mirror...and then install the mirror.
Depending on how critical a person is....the look is not that bad. Is it factory correct. NO....obviously it is not. But does it stick out like a 'sore thumb'...once again...that depends on how picky a person is. Like i wrote...there is a 'trade-off'.
No one has mentioned how hard it is to find a pair that stays adjusted. They either have a sloppy ball joint or are affected by unreasonably high speeds or bumpy roads or just slamming the door. I always had my hand out the window adjusting the driver's side. The passenger side - forget it. Once they get loose they stay loose, just fix the cable.
