tachometer stopped working
i just bought my first vette 1971, a long time dream since 1974 when i first saw one in Stockolm sweden. And after driving it all the way from Cincinnati OH to NJ. the tach stopped working after making some grinding sound. i looked at some info online. It seems to point to the tach distributor drive gear , do i need to replace other parts or just that. I have not yet open the distributor. The tach cable seems ok.Where could i buy the replacement part online and which one do I need? i would appreciate if you answer and help me with that.
It's funny that in a life, there are few times that is a 'grinding noise' good!
Check out the 'Paragon Corvette Reproduction' site.
The tachometer section of their catalogue shows the various parts of the tach cable drive gear and cable connection.
You can buy the individual parts or a kit.
Before purchasing the parts it's wise to determine if the tach drive gear on the main shaft of the distributor has been damaged or not. If it has, that needs to be replaced too. You'll see pictures of the shaft/gear too.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
