My center two-part vinyl covers covering the shift and parking brake consoles were missing interior screws. I couldn't get the replacement screws to engage. I was expecting to see a U-clip nut for the fasteners to engage into, however, this is what is there.
Do you drill a pilot hole into these then screw in a standard interior screw or does it require a special fastener?
Tom, those are called plastic anchor nuts and the screw just taps into it. Yours must be shot or striped out if the screw won't hold. Corvette Central has them as p/n 343081 along with other vendors. I replaced mine in my 77 since they were inexpensive. (Well relatively!)
Hi,
I was aware of that plug being used on the inner ends of the dash pads but not for mounting the console covers.
The intention is that a normal interior screw will make it's own hole as it's driven in.
The shape of the 'plug' gives some leeway in installing the 'soft trim'
parts.
Regards,
Alan
