Default Rear diff

I want to change my rear diff. I believe it's 3:08 and want to go to 3:73. I have seen some posts on the best places to go and I have looked into it but can't remember the place. I believe it's in either Indiana or Ohio. Forget the guys name but remember it was $800 for a rebuilt 3:73. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks

Duntov Motors is one of them. Google Duntov Motors for an address and phone number.

Bair's Corvette is great. They are just over the PA Ohio line in Northwest PA.

3.73:1 will result in about 3000 rpm's at 60 mph. A lot of noise, poor gas mileage, and engine wear.

Have you considered the 5 speed tranny options?

I agree. Bairs is rebuilding mine as we speak. Call and talk to Mark, he is the diff guy. He can do a basic rebuild, or change gear ratio.

I have always heard good things about Van Steel in Clearwater, FL. I plan on taking my numbers matching/correct 3.08 diff for a rebuild and gear set change, to a 3.55. About an 90 minutes from my home. So its a huge savings not having to crate and ship.
Don't buy a used diff unless you are 100% sure about it's condition. I bought a used 3.55 out of a '79 here on the forum. Advertised as "under 40k miles, quiet, like new" yada yada yada. Seemed OK on the bench. Roars like crazy at 60 mph. Gears look like new. I think it's a problem with one of the pinion bearings.
