Default Direct fit exhaust system.....?

I have a '72 4 speed and need the front and intermediate pipes. I may just put a whole new system in but the mufflers and tips are pretty new, the exhaust from the mufflers forward is a mess of welded, rusty and bent up pipes.

How well does the direct fit system work...? I would rather do the work myself.

Various vendors sell complete exhaust systems, they range from economical to expensive depending on your wants. Most all bolt in very easily.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough.....I'm asking who's system fit with no bending or welding needed....? What systems have other members had good luck with....? I'm not looking for performance improvements just one that works.

Listen....any set from a vendor will work without bending or welding. (Unless you want to weld the muffler to the intermediate pipe like the factory did.)

Brian,

The way you had titled the thread lead me to believe you were looking at a specific company's product. As Revi has posted there are several "made to fit" systems available. Some are closer to the originals and better for judging. Read up a little about the materials used then make your choice. Again most bolt right on, no cutting or welding required.

I've used Gardners with great success. Just one example...

After taking a closer look at my mufflers I realized they need to be replaced as well....Not rusted thru anywhere but they are starting to rust so I might as well just replace the whole system.

Thinking about this system from Eckler's, anybody have this installed....?

I have a Central Corvette system with Magnaflow mufflers on my 78, its 9 years old and 50K miles. The installation was easy for me using a floor jack. I was looking at Midamerica, Eklers, and others, plus using stock mufflers, chambered, turbo, and many other types. There is no abc answer to the basic question.

You haven't installed a Pypes system then.

I was going to recommend replacing the mufflers anyways, there's no guarantee a random front system would work with someone else's rear

I'm ordering the system from Eckler's today, I'll post a review and some pics once I get it installed.

+1 on Gardners, never had a pre-bent exhaust system that fit so well.

Looks like I need a 2 1/2" center exhaust bracket...The fit other than that seems to be pretty good.
