Default Door panels

Have any of you guys bought new panels and then transferred over the trim? If so is it just a matter of marking new holes and swapping? I see I can get a bare panel substantially cheaper than a deluxe and since all my trim bits are ok I could save a lot.

Sure did. I bought the bare panels for my 72 and transferred the trims. The only thing that you will run into is the lock bezel trim is riveted on your original panels not just held on with nuts etc. They sell new replacements that attach with nuts , but you don't need them . Grind the head off of your old ones so they can be removed and then drill a small hole in each stud and attach with a small screw and washer on each stud. It just takes a steady hand to drill them and a little time

When you remove trim, make sure you are careful when prying and bending the tangs. Straighten them as much as possible, so that they pierce the new panel correctly. Mark locations for tangs on new panel to duplicate where they are on your old one.

Good luck!

I already got everything removed and cleaned up just waiting on the ups man now. Are there indents on the new panels? Or do I just make the holes myself? Also do you know if the small Velcro pads come on the new panel? I ordered some just in case but not sure how they attatch till I see what the new panel looks like

The Velcro pads are pretty much useless. The new panels are not exactly the same shape as the originals and mine wouldn't even push in far enough to lock together. It don't seem to matter though. The metal clips on the end hold tight enough.

Panel arrived today and I see what your saying about not 100% the same as original. It really looks good don't get me wrong, but the u shaped trim piece appears to be to long on the new panel. With the lock bezel in the proper spot( lock **** in the center of the hole and handle opening properly aligned) the u trim will be roughly 1/8 of an inch to long. I measured the panels and it is off just by that much. Did you have. To adjust your mldgs at all? I'm thinking of buying a new used trim piece just to have an extra to trim to fit.

You are right . I ran into the same thing and had to trim that 1/8 inch off of the u trim but it is not noticeable and the end result looks great. I'm happy with my door panels. They are as good as you can expect for aftermarket parts.
