simple way to get the T-bolts into the frame without dropping them is to wind a little s/s safety wire around the t-bolt about half way down the threads.Slip your washers on and run the wire thru the side pipe flange. It's easier to do than explain. As far as the rubber washers are concerned I put a slit in them so they can be installed anytime before tightening up.The t-bolts are easy to make,I used 3/16 steel about 5/8 wide and about 1 and 1/2 inches long.A little weld around them and you good to go,use steel bolts not s/s.Safety wire is about .015 thick, aircraft or a performance shop will carry it.You could probably use bailing wire.

Yep, same exact issue with trimming the blue rubber thing. I really only had to do it on the rear drivers side mount, the others were okay.
My car is actually sprayed with anthracite grey plasti-dip. It looks better in pictures than it does in person. I hope by the end of next year to have peeled the dip off and actually have sprayed it with decent paint. It needs a bit of body work first.
I haven't tried to put the rockers back on. It just wanted to get it back on the road and set the rockers aside. Also, I want to be able to easily remove the pipes for the car show in September. I plan to enter into the roaring engines competition- I think with straight long tube headers I will get some attention!
I have some mechanical issues to get through, it isn't running quite right. The side pipes seem to flow much better than my original exhaust meaning I'm now trying to find the right jet size and tune for the carb.
Brack, that is something to consider. Changing the exhaust might require a retune of the carb. Also, I think you're on the right track with just ordering the kit. Making something work might be more trouble than it is worth.
Mine started back firing when I let off the gas in 3rd and 4th gear since I installed the side pipes and headers. Tuned the carb but havent been able to get rid of it yet. Unable to time mine because the harmonic balancer is just spinning. So decided to wait for 383 crate motor and 5 speed TKO project once it cools down.
Forgive my reply without reading every word of the other replies but when I see people going way off of your original questions by asking their questions to you I get bored quick.
Here is the basic idea of the kit I bought,
when the tech installed these during my chassis swap the pipes were high and at a horrible angle to the ground,
Seems my brackets on the pipes were bent and this caused the pipe to get pulled up tight and off angle, seem the tech had three options not mount them at all that way to me the best option in the situation or next bend the brackets on the pipes so the pipes hang right or do it the way he did which to me was not right...stressing the headers and pipes.
I removed the bolts and let the pipes down where they desire to hang I will likely make new brackets.
The hanger kit has the so called "T" bolts that go in the factory frame holes 2 maybe 2.5" they have rubber bushings and lock washers, I found it a bit 1/2 *** and will use larger washers etc.
& Bats , thanks for the pic ...... That's what I was wanting to see / needing to know . Just hope my pipes fit ok , being second hand .
I believe the mounting brackets get bent and in some cases installers bend them hoping for better fit, in my case it was super stressing the header tubes, I hope to get a few more years life out of mine and had I left them that way I believe my header tubes would have cracked.
I recall in the early 80's a racer buddy had side pipe headers on his nova he didnt like the bolt on idea and being a drag strip hero he pulled his engine a lot, he used hood pins, bolted to the frame then would just "pin" then to the side pipe bracket, a quick release idea seems a piece of rubber line on the pin kept rattles down...
