Default Cold start idle question

So my new to me 1980 L48 automatic seems to be running ok . When I start up when cold the car idles at about 1100 rpm and then after a minute or two I kick it down to around 800 rpm .

I was just wondering if this is considered normal operation .

Thanks in advance ...

Pretty normal. The 'cold' idle is set with the engine is fully warmed up, and usually at around 1500 rpm, or so. But, when that engine is cold, the initial idle (with choke set) would run more in the 1000-1200 rpm range. So, I think it's working reasonably well.
