Both fit relatively well and need minor mods to clear tall head bolts and around the idler arm.
There's a video on Youtube using a high performance Chevy big block on a dyno to test exhaust components. The take away from that is- the shorty headers did almost nothing for the power curve. Long tube headers made a big difference. Adding an 18" collector extension to the long tubes added some additional horsepower and a bunch of torque.
My Hedmans required a small dimple on a tube on the passenger side to keep it from tapping the frame at idle. Other than that they fit perfectly.
Had a set of Hooker super comps 1 7/8" on my 68 427. Took them off and installed the factory manifolds w/ a gardner exhaust system. I feel the change cost me around 30-40 hp so headers definitely do help on a BBC. I do miss the power but its a #s matching BB car bound for NCRS judging so they had to go.
