I just got the body on the frame and I was going to go right into the auto body/paint process. Now I'm feeling that I need to do mechanical stuff first. Actually, now I walk out there to do "x" and get side tracked with "y" and get nothing done. It's quite overwhelming. What's your preferred process for building one of these???
I got my car to a running driving machine, then masked things off before I tackled final prep for paint. ( that only took me 4 months) Some guys paint the car body while off the chassis. It's pretty much the consensus with painters that it's nearly impossible to put the body back on and finish all mechanicals without scratching it. But both ways work. I didn't want to be leaning all over the fenders with fresh paint trying to get the car up and running.
Absolutely you need to do the major mechanical work before you paint. Or, you could have done all that with the body off, had the body painted, and THEN dropped the body on.
Either way, you don't want to mess up a new paint job with a wrench.
Looks like it's time to make it a runner! I would have loved to paint the body off the frame, but I bought it in pieces. So, I have to assemble the car and check/repair fitment anyway before I can do any painting. Thanks guys.
