Hello everyone, first post here. I was wondering if any of you could tell me what a 1968 427 Tripower with original trans and wiring harnesses may be valued at? The engine and trans have whatever mileage they have when they arrive at the dealer. A friend of mine purchased it from a dealer in 1968 after the Vette fell of the hauler and he hasn't done anything with it since.
The car itself was parted out in 1968. The body was damaged but not the engine and trans. He bought just the engine, trans and wiring harness from the owner of the dealership, old friend of his. There is no damage to the motor. I will not be able to get pictures of the motor for some time. Just looking to see it's value and if I can foot the bill.

Did nobody ask which 427 tripower engine it is? There was a 400 hp L-68 and 2 versions of the 435 hp L-whatever, one with aluminum heads (L89). I would think the 435 hp would be worth more than the 400 hp engine, and the L-89 the most. The tripower setup, if complete, is worth a lot on its own so the value of the component parts probably adds up to more than $3500.
It would be interesting to see the numbers stamped on the engine.
I didn't think that the '68 427 ever had the turbo 400 trans behind it. '68 was the first year the THM-400 was offered, and the GM Engineering staff was concerned that the "new" transmission might not be ready for the BB engines; they wanted to see what success the SB engines had, first. So, the BB's got the Powerglide unit, just like for 1966-67.
THM-400 was a super success (in terms of customer satisfaction with the automatic tranny AND lower warranty costs. So, the 400 was across-the-board in '69 thru '74.
{Somebody correct me if that's not the way it went down.}
