This is very true unfortunately. The priorities for law enforcement are all screwed up in this country. Car or home break-ins and auto theft get absolutely no attention but the police spend huge amounts of time on revenue generating activities like enforcing speed limits which are set stupidly low in many areas. And don't even get me started on how much time and money they waste trying to bust potheads when they should be going after criminals who have actual victims.

Apparently some of their vehicles are equipped with cameras that automatically read plates. That's how it was found. By chance.

There are a couple of places you might take your car to have it looked at in Houston, I might recommend a place that specializes in corvettes or rebuilding/restoring old cars and hot rods. Corvette World may be a good place to start or Franks Corvette shop. Kemah Classic Automotive does a lot of work on classic and hot rods, you can check out all three of these and a few more in the Houston area online. I know people that have used Corvette World and Kemah Classics and Franks did some work on my car. Good shotp, extremely knowledgable guy.
I also feel like you have a good chance of getting some help from our club, its kind of what we do, help each other on our cars. Really good bunch of guys that have a lot of smarts on C3s. See what the shop says as well as your insurance company. You can check us out anytime. Join the forum and ask as many questions as you like. All the members are aware of your situation as we have been discussing different ideas for protecting our cars over the last day or so. It's what we do, usually meet once a month for lunch and work on our cars. No dues, no officers and full membership participation. Here is the site, anyone can join and be engaged in our forum:
http://www.houstonc3club.org
Any of the CF members are more than welcome to check us out as well. MrM
Thanks a ton. I'll check it all out today. I get the impression the car will be totaled now, after having the adjuster out. Guess I'll be back in the market, starting... now.

You're not kidding.

One of my cars was a victim of a hit and run in the middle of the night. I called the police the next day and they wanted me to just drive into the PD and fill out some paperwork for the complaint. They couldn't be bothered to send a cop out to look at it or anything.

At that point the only value would have been to get the complaint for insurance, and it wasn't worth my time considering my deductible and the value of the car that was hit, so I didn't file.

Whoever did it absolutely got away with it.

Gentlemen,
I'm a police officer with 24 years experience.
Previously, a county wide parole officer.
Previously, a Marine.
I hope this at the very least qualifies me to comment here.
First, I take no offense to any comments made in earlier posts as I'm way way beyond personalizing the job.
I'd like to preface by saying a patrolman on duty, mindful of his surroundings picked up on the tag reader a stolen plate hit.
Good job

Now in my jurisdiction we have 3 officers for 22,000 residents.
It is virtually impossible to watch everyones property.
We have allot of Burglaries as we border Philadelphia.
I know its property and its insured or it should be any how.
If we can develop leads we do.
I also have suicidal teens who can't function.
Retail Thefts from our stores.
Domestics because people can't get along.
Public drunks because people can't drink responsibiy.
DUI cause they can't drive and drink well.
Traffic cause the boss wants us to justify our existence.
And you want it when....
I think you get my point.
Yes I know it's the job I signed up for.
I can't imagine what it's like in the Houston area for PD.
I can for comparison sake share some info about Philadelphia.
Here's Phila. PD's response time.
45min -1 hr for a founded burglary.
You'll sit outside on the step and wait.
Minor traffic collision, they no longer respond.
You sort it out between yourselves.
Publis answer:
everybody calls 911 now and reports man with a gun calls to get
you there.
They call 911 for an ambulance when they need a free cab ride.
A city in excess of 3 million people 5th largest in the nation
with a police force reduced from over 7500 to 5800 over the last
several decades while the population grew?
So the next you hear CNN reporting some ball wash story about
the police hopefully you'll realize we have allot more to do than find your wife or car.
Marshal

Well, we'll see what the payout looks like then decide, lol. If it's a goner I'm definitely going to get another. Already feel naked without it.

If it does wind up totaled I'll see if I can get info on its sale in case anyone is interested. I assume it'll be a good deal.

There ygo.....! Good attitude ......chin up ......so at least you know a C3 is still liked enough to be stolen . A lot of cars aren't taken .....that cost way more ......just don't draw the attention of a C3. Visually....anyway.
I live at the beach ....lots of younger families.
I'm still amazed at the amount of young fellows in the 7-13 range , stoping their parents pointing ....look at the corvette. It was the way I was 45 years ago......you bet they will remember .....and one day they might just want one themselves.

Default If totaled, buy it back!.

The buy back will be cheap. Maybe 10 percent of stated value. Get hold of the houston club members. There is still a lot of good parts. Or just re-sell whole car for 2-3k...you might not even have to turn in and salvage brand the title. At least ask the ins co how much tge buyback is...

If insurance totals it out. Take the money and shop for another turn key C3. I believe if you buy yours back, it may get a salvage title and won't be worth squat.

Not necessarily, I think it may depend on the state.... When We totaled my wife's 01 Audi with a deer. Our insurance agent said it would not have a salvaged title, due to the fact that the title wasn't changing hands. Could be wrong... but it might be worth looking into.

the salvage branded titles are mainly for late-model run-of -the-mill cars. 2011 accords, stuff like that. they don't care on older cars and collecter stuff cuz it isn't cutting into the corporate profits or scamming stupid people who go to any dealer and make payments...and the buyback isn't necessarily to rehab car for OP's own keepage. just so that what profit is left in it goes to him instead of some salvage yard.
