Buy-back turned out to be quite reasonable, but that doesn't necessarily mean I will be having it restored. If anyone nearby is interested and wants to have a look, feel free to drop a message.

My friend left is IROC Camaro in my Condo parking lot while he went away on vacation and it got stolen. (it was kinda in a blind spot...)

About 3 days later the car was found under a car cover in another apt building lot about 3 miles away with the high-end aftermarket stereo components ripped out of it.

Look in the area for suspect cars covered. And yeah Craigslist and eBay. Post to friends on Facebook your loss...

Hope this helps.

I'm glad that Hagerty didn't balk at paying you. Perhaps you had already informed them that it would be parked outside under a carport. Normally, they require insured cars to be parked inside; and I have heard of them rejecting claims because stolen cars were NOT parked inside, as normally required.

If they totalled the car and will offer you a check for the Agreed amount, I think you should take it. It's really tough to find a repair shop that will dig into that kind of work and do it reasonably. There's a lot of "time" required to repair interior stuff, and that is usually done at the rate of $100 (or so) per hour. It mounts up quickly.

If you can do the work yourself, maybe a 'buy-back' would be a good thing to do. When you get it repaired, you don't have to keep it--you could then sell it (with salvaged title) and use that money to buy another (as long as there is a net profit from it).

I say take the check and let them have the car.

sounds like he took the check minus the buy back and still has the car. doesn't mean he has to fix it. as i said previously, there is profit in that car in parts, or he can turn it into a run-drive bomb and sell it for 3500 needing little stuff...they probly paid around 8 to 11k minus 10 to 20% for buyback. so he got to keep it plus check for 7 to 10...just a swag.
