I'm new to this so please bare with me. I don't know much about classic cars , but I'm trying to learn. My corvette has been sitting for 15 years before I bought it. I'm having a issue where my 1979 vette will turn over as soon as I try to hook the battery up. I checked the starter when I replaced it, I made sure the wires were marked and hooked them back up the same when I took them off. there is a total of 3 smaller red wires 2 are connected together with a fusible link, and one is seperate with a fusible link connected to the positive side of the starter solenoid not including the battery wire which is a thick black wire. I have the ignition wire by itself on the small eyelet on the inner side of the solenoid.
They are not touching, I've checked to make sure ive got the ignition switch; which is on the steering column unhooked and the car still tries to crank. I was told Chevrolet had a problem with the starter getting hot, so they put a switch on the firewall that helps with the starter to turn over when it's hot .a repair shop over in my area told me this switch could be stuck on. I can't find this switch, and I'm hoping someone can help me with this. heres a picture of a switch on my firewal.l I think this is it because, wires are coming from the solenoid to it, and from it to the wire harness. as soon as I unhooked it the car no longer turns over. unless I touch the wire eyelets to it . but I can't find a parts number, or what it's called. I've checked my Hanes Manuel but it doesn't show anything about this part.

Not sure what the problem is but with all due respect, you might try putting in some periods for sentence enders to make your post easier to read and interpret. Good luck.
I don't have anything like that on either of my 79s. From the connectors, it looks to have been added by someone.
Not quite following your hookup description but normally, a 79 starter solenoid only has ONE small terminal and the one large terminal for the cable. When using a solenoid(earlier?)with two small terminals the second one is not used. I've actually removed the second terminal when dealing with one. I THINK it has something to do with points ignition.
The black wire with the big eyelet goes around the back to a bellhousing bolt as a ground. Battery cable of course goes to the big terminal on the solenoid with the 2 fused link wires while the one with the small eyelet goes to the small terminal, should be labeled "S" on the cap.
Then again, don't know what mods have been made to yours.

Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining it. The power wire looked black under my car, maybe from being old not sure. I've checked to make sure with a light tester it's the one coming from the battery. The ground wire your talking about. I've got that one hooked up its coming from the chassis and is connected with the starter brackets . I thought maybe that switch was after market I've seen pictures of other 79 and none of them had this other switch. Ive got a idea, but before I post it let me get home and take a better picture from a different angle. that way I can explain it better thank you for helping me.
Just in case you can't zoom in here's what my writing says.
Top says to the wire harness
Middle has two wires going to it. To the wire harness/power from the solenoid
Bottom says the s terminal on the solenoid
I found some numbers, but not sure where I can find this. since I don't know what it's called.
2842
841 12v
I will point out that the car will turns over and run with a button switch, but the starter stays Engaged. I unhooked the ignition switch and I haven't hooked it up during any test I've done, so whatever is making the car turn over when the battery is hooked up isn't to do with the ignition switch. When I unhooked this it no longer turns over with the battery hooked up.

Problem fixed I opened the relay to find that it was stuck together. Now just need to find the part. it looks like it stopped working and got rusted. It works if I take some plyers to touch it together it will now turn over without staying engaged. If anyone can point me in the right direction, so I can buy this part would be appreciated. And thank you to the 2 guys that helped me.
