They are an aftermarket custom replacement lense..obviously some people like them and some people don't (not unlike any mod to a Corvette).
Corvettes, to many are all about personalization, these for some people help them accomplish that.

I plan to put them on my '74, even though I actually like the back up lights.

74 tail lights and the way they mount are one year only. It's my understanding the bubble kits will not fit stock 74s.
