Default custom flared 68 convertible

Might be just what someone is looking for,

I thought some of you might enjoy this one,
I do not know anything about it but did read the ad,

I will only say, flares are not a "wide body" can-am is a wide body...

Somewhere between an L-88 and ZL-1 flare, needs a little reshaping but I don't hate it.

This looks like the 68 I recently bought from dealer in TX, including the headlight relocation. Fender flares and front clip are Ecklers. Engine on mine is a little different and different color, of course. I've already scraped the passenger side rear flare on my garage door- tough to judge how wide they are from the driver seat. RA

Ronarndt,
Why not post your car not one "like" it...

A far as I know and you know how I know custom parts,
Ecklers never sold a L-88 style flare, they sold the ZL-1 which was a name they gave the flare,
They had the small ones about 2" over stock and large about 3" over stock the large I guess didnt sell well as they havent been offered in over 20 years,

They look more like the ones in the middle picture. The bottom is shaped almost like the polyurethane factory mud guards that were available for some of the Japanese cars. It sticks out about 2 1/2 inches at the bottom. Did these flares also increase the radius of the cut-out for the tires? My back tires are 20 inches and there is plenty of room for them.

If you can post a picture from the rear of the flare I can tell more...

Your flare looks smaller to me than ecklers, it's sort of like what was on my 69 but bigger than it,

The fender flares were just another surprise when my TX car arrived on the truck here in VA. The inspector I sent to look at the car did not mention them in his report and his photos and the dealer photos did not feature them clearly enough for me to notice. They would not have been my choice, but at least they were installed correctly and the paint job makes them look like factory equipment. I do keep bumping into them and bang my shins. Maybe one of those orange traffic cones placed near the fender would help. RA

RA, my largest concern is the state regs on getting tags on that car, as the headlights are into the grill, and some years ago the feds had a regulation on that, I THINK it was center of bulbs had to be at least 18" off the ground, a neighbor friend in Md. some years ago was moving also, and he was super concerned that his custom vette was not going to pass inspections where he was going....

Here in Florida, my car suffered two accidents over the 18 years I been here, first claimed the stock headlights, so I managed to fix that with Ecklers square bulb sugar scoops, the second was a Verizon truck backing into my left front and took out the light and some 2700 bux of body work.....too much for the old paint job....so moved the lights forward about 1/2 way, put in later Camaro bulbs, and reduced the large openings by some 50%......but retained legal height on the lights....

as to the flares, they look so similar to mine, it's funny, my car was an old show car from the 70's and I was told the first gal that owned it had wicked wide flares on it, her buddy that I bought it from had them reduces in width, and so, it is.......but the overall effect is interesting similarity to your Blue Beast there.....see my site for pix......

edit, interesting in that the alt in the pix of your engine is on the rong side for a stockish vette.....any idea of where that front accessory drive is from, and why the swap???

Gene- I registered the car in VA as a classic with 1968 "vintage" plates. No inspection is required. The owner self certifies the car is safe and roadworthy. The car came with the 454 engine transplant. Not sure why the engine was swapped by the PO, but the fact it is a big block with a couple thousand $$$ of chrome is one reason I bought it. The alternator bracket allows just enough clearance between the fender wall and the valve cover. Not sure where it came from, but it fits and works. The fancy chrome-plated alternator in the photo died on me last weekend, so I got a plain Jane one from Autozone for $45 while the replacement one is on order ($185)

I hate not having proof in some catalog pix but your flare doesnt appear to be either of the ecklers flares I posted before, unless ZL-1 but it doesnt look that large to me
however, after talking to mike to see if he recalls it as I do ecklers made a "small" ZL-1 that they stopped selling it could be that flare, or if not ecklers it's almost anyones guess,
The clues are how far it sticks out from the car at the top and the "mudflap" kick out at the bottom rear.

I can't be more help either. Not sure who the PO was that installed them and no info came with the car. Only good thing is they were installed so you can find no seams or bonding lines.

That is the hallmark of a ecklers style flare they originated the copied idea of installing the flare on a fender then when the flare was installed on the car normally at the bonding strips it was faster and looked better less body work hours, I recall a cat who was 100% sure his car came flared from the factory because he saw no bonding lines...

Your flares look pretty darn good,
On the headlight thing, a lawyer buddy told me the modded headlights to an illegal state "could" lose a person a nasty lawsuit in a motor crash here and some other states even if otherwise not at fault.

I'm not too worried about the lights. The car is registered as an antique with antique plates, so a lot of "modern" features are not required. Plus- I do not plan to drive at night, in the rain, when there are bugs, bird droppings, gravel on road, deer crossing or other hazards. That should limit my risk.
