I'm looking for brake pads for my '77. I was just on a few of the vendor web sites. And they have pads for $25.00 per axle or $50.00 per axle. I don't race it, just cruising and car show. Maybe 3,000 miles a year. Is there a big difference between the $25.00 or the 50 buck ones.
You'd probably get a better deal at your local parts store chain. You don't need the super duper fantastic pads of the day. Definitely not race pads, which may be too hard for the street. I've had very good luck with the standard organic pads (usually the cheapest) or the next step up, semi metallic. I now run some Hawk pads that are supposed to be a upgrade for hard braking mountain driving.

The cheapest pads are organic. They're softer, wear faster, but are easier on your rotors. The more expensive semi metallic are harder, stop better, make less dust, but are harder on your rotors. For an every driver, the cheaper ones are fine, in fact you can get them at Autozone for $14.99 per axle. I think C3 brakes are excellent. These Vettes have 4 piston calipers that apply pressure from both sides, pretty advanced even for today. So you can't really go wrong with any pads, as long as the rest of the braking components are up to par.
Go to a 'better' quality car parts place and ask for a GOOD brand of ceramic pad. It will be more expensive than for organic pads, but they will have decent braking, not generate all that black dust on the wheels, and last a long time.
Organic pads are definitely the best bang for the dollar. They are fairly inexpensive and their braking is pretty good for the money! However, Ceramic pads do make cleaning your rims a lot less time-consuming!
I went from organic to semi-metalic and really don't like them as much so I'm going to go back to organic for the street, they stop fine and are easy on the 45 yr old G.M. original rotors. They really don't have too much brake dustand it's easy to clean. Most new rotors are made in China, not up to G.M. standards.
I strongly warn against ceramic pads, at least the Hawk PC HB126Z.505 (Performance Ceramic) that I installed a few years ago. They don't stop as good (require more pedal pressure), they squeal and they leave a coating of black dust on the wheels after just 50 miles. FYI: I prepped the (new) rotors per Hawk info sheet.
OEM pads are excellent for street driving. Years ago I worked on hundreds of C2 and C3's and never had a problem with OEM pads. And I've run them on my personal C3's for the past 40 years. No squealing and no brake dust problem.
If you want a quality aftermarket pad take a look at the Carbotech 1521 pad. Low dust stops like OEM if not better and last longer. 100% non-corrosive dust will not harm your paint or wheels.
