Default Locking gass cap 1978

Anybody know of a good locking gas cap for my 1978? The black plastic ones don't work very well ,the new one I bought will not lock most of the time.

I don't know of any, but where are you parking your car that you need to worry about someone stealing the gas?

Sorry to hear that. Hope everything works out.

BTW, that sugar in the gas tank thing isn't true. Sugar won't dissolve in gas so the worst that will happen is the filter will plug up.

The plastic on the locking cap on my 78 is a cover, not part of the locking mechanism. It's a Stant from Amazon.

i like the peace of mind myself

mine is cheap as well

i learned to force the key left or right to get the job done, it just has to be manhandled

Yep I would think they could be made better but seems like they are what we are stuck with. I have locking caps on my 64 C10 my 71 C10 & they work great.

I think I would be more concerned about having my car 'keyed' or vandalized than someone bothering to put sugar in the tank.

If you are really concerned about the 'sugar' thing, put something on the surface of the gas cap that will let you know when it has been tampered with, then check it [each time] before you use the car.

My other concern is that you must be leaving the car open to 'attackers' when parked. Most insurers of 'collector cars' require the car to be "garaged" for it to be covered. If it is damaged, and it was not garaged, your collector car insurer may not pay off!

Sounds like you need a good lawyer more than a locking gas cap.

Put up a couple of security cameras (at least a couple of game cams looking out the windows of the front of your home) and put a sign near your drive stating the home is under video surveillance - cheap insurance in case the turds actually do something! I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your son.

just another layer of security, telling them to move on,

if they steal your car, they can only drive until the gas is gone, of course they a bust it open, just another hassle for them, it may discourage them rather than invite them
