Default 1975 Corvette Paint

Hi, I have a dark red metallic 1975 corvette. I'm curious to know if the original paint had lead in it. I found a whole bunch of sanding dust from the first paint job it had (Prior to me owning it) all over the headlight innerds and in the bumper support rails. Anything to be worried about here?
Thanks!

Hi NS,
I believe lead poisoning is most dangerous for children under 6 years old and workers who are exposed to lead continuously over an extended (many years) period of time.

Alan

Lead has to be ingested before it harms you. St. Louis used acrylic lacquer which contained man made pigment (the acrylic). There might not be any lead in it.

I'm really surprised at how inconsistant gm was with paint for these cars. IIRC, In the early 70's one plant used single stage paint while another used two part laquer. What gives?

Hi NS,
I'm curious what "two part lacquer" is and in what GM plant was it being used in the early 70s.

Alan

Alan Let's see when I as little I would step on a rusty nail and my mother would give me Cod liver oil and say go to school when I was in High school I worked in an asbestos factory and in Viet Nam got some holes punched in me and sprayed with agent orange daily so painting corvettes is the least of my worries
