Default Ignition Coil Replacement 1970 454

The original ignition coil is still working fine (60,000 miles on the clock), do they wear out and need replacing or are the latest ones better for a original 454 engine (10.25 compression ratio with 390 bhp)

If so any recommendations here, otherwise I'll keep it after a little tidying up as it as its a pretty much original car.

Put it on ebay and ask $500...

As long as ignition coils remain sealed and never overheated nor experiencing significant over-current conditions, they [OEM units] should last a VERY long time. It is important to match the coil with the needs of your engine (how it is built and how you use it), so the primary and secondary resistances are critical, in this regard.

Just throwing a 'high powered' coil on your engine, so that it COULD have a hotter spark, is a dubious decision, at best.

Many thanks I will keep original after restoring it.

Off the subject, do I need to retune dwell and timing on my 71 after changing the coil? Thank you

No. Ignition coil has nothing to do with the timing. Dwell setting is a 'fine tuning' of the ignition timing due to adjustment of the ignition points.
