Johnny, beautiful 70 LS5 you have there in a great color combo,If you can post engine pics and info on options,vin....Thanks Jerry
Sure... Here's a few documenting numbers, what's left of the tank sticker, and a couple other random pics. Motor is fairly original except for the HEI. I've got the original distributor in a box. The C7 is my wife's DD.
Johnny, thanks for the pics, great shot of the engine pad.Is your ignition shielding the box type or one piece like mine as your 70 is a late build like mine and the late 70's have the one piece 71 shield. Just another 70 LS5 thing I keep track of. If you could post pic of trim tag...Thanks Jerry
Johnny our cars are 396 cars apart. Mine was built G18 of 1970, and engine around 5 days apart. Mine is Donneybrooke Green with saddle (light tan) interior.

Here's the trim tag. I finally finished the paint work today, washed her up, and boy is she pretty.
Looks great johnny, just curious what type of ignition shielding on your LS5 box type or one piece.....
Wish I could tell you. The previous owner installed an HEI and put the original dizzy in a box. I opened the box, and guess what? No shielding. I had assumed it was boxed up with the original distributor. So let me ask you, which one should it have? Something else to put on the list.
The late 70's like ours some have the one piece like the 71's and some have the box shield.Mine is in the 14000's and has the one piece and have seen others with it in 14-15000 range while the NCRS Manual states it should start in the 16000 vin range for 71 style shield. I started a LS5 ignition shield survey about a year ago in C3 General and it seems the one piece shields were in the 14-1500 range and not later as the manual states.
My car was built on July 20 number 15919 and it has a three piece ignition shield box. My engine was built on July 7, 1970. Have you checked the casting date on the block? Mine was cast in December of 1969 and I am trying to find out if that is an outlier. I have been able to verify with one other owner whose block was cast at the same time.
Thanks,
Gene
