Default wire ID please

I don't have a manual yet for my 74 and I'm too impatient to wait so can anyone tell me what these wire/ junction blocks are for.

will the aim manual tell me where something was mounted in the car, I have wiring diagrams for my 74 but they don't tell you were to find those mounting points.

pic #1 is a breaker or junction block on the inside of the drivers side wheel well under the fender.

pic #2 is the back firewall, when I got the car this mess was already there? #1- whats this momentary switch for (do I need it)? # 2 - what are these 2 large red wires (maybe 10 ga) for and are they supposed to be inside of an insulated connector or ???
#3 looks like a fusible link for something?
thanks in advance!

Yes, your first picture is a junction box. GM thought it would be a convenient place to bring 12 volts positive to other places in the car.

The momentary switch is the 'hood switch' for the anti-theft alarm.

Not sure about 2 & 3, does your 'battery gauge' work?

I had a bunch of odd ball Bubba connections like that on my car as well. Some of the best restoration money I spent was new engine and front end wire harness. Every plugged in where it was supposed to with no mystery wires or wire nuts. If you start finding a bunch of these, you might want to look into going this direction.

Hi L,
# 3 certainly looks like the kind of a connection used various places in the harnesses where a 'fusible link' is employed as circuit protection.
I can't see for sure is #2 is broken out of #3?
Regards,
Alan

Here's an example:

And another:

thanks guys, I have an alarm system ,well whats left of one. a previous owner must have removed the keyed part as it is no were to be found? the horn (siren) is in the back rear next to the power antenna and that switch is under the hood, thats all I can find. I'd like to just delete those thing but I have no clue if there is power going to any of them?
this car is not a restoration so I don't care about losing the alarm stuff. there is also no original emissions or factory engine manifold wire connections anymore , so I assume alot of the bare wires on my firewall used to go to the engine/manifold etc.
I thought of buying a new front harness but I would end up with the same go no where wires, they'd just be new.

Alan - the red wire's are bonded together with a steel factory style crimp, I almost think they should have had a black rubber cover over it? the other black fusible link has 2 wires coming in the bottom and what looks like an orange wire stub in the top. I will re-check the wire colors today and repost later.
Peterbuilt - I will have to check my battery gauge to see if its working

Alan, the wire that I called out as a fusible link (#3) only has one wire going into the rubber link (not 2 like I thought) and it looks like its brown (dirty)? there was an orange wire originally coming out of the other side but it was clipped off?
