Default Oil FIlter recommendation

I have a 77 (bought 6 months ago) with a 72 motor and 1970 heads. I ordered Amsoil Zrod oil and was curious of your recommendations for an oil filter. Good, bad or otherwise. Thanks in advance.

Wix. Or you can probably pick up a Napa Gold which is just a rebadged Wix for a little less.

I use the Wix filter with an added filter magnet @ the bottom of the filter

I use these as they clear long tube headers....."short style", like the old PF25 AC.

Order mine from O'Reilleys....$10.

Default Oil filter

Wix #51060 gives you a little more oil capacity and has anti drain back.

Wix, Purolator Pure 1, Mobil 1. They are all really good filters. I mostly use Wix.
I buy more and more consumables from Amazon nowadays...

DANGEROUS to use a 'RACING" filter ...'thinking' that it is better for those who do not change this type of filter out a lot. NOT for street driving.

I called WIX and asked when I saw on a customers car and THEY recommended NOT to use it. It is designed for a weekend racer who is changing the oil a lot and NOT intended for extended use.

Doubt me???? Call them.

if you really want an oil filter that takes 'things' to a higher level of filtration....check them out.

The NAPA #1061 (WIX) has served me well for many years.

That's a great looking oil filter... but at that price it would take me nearly 30 years for payback assuming one over-the-counter oil filter per year in the Corvette. If I drove a ton of miles in a daily driver it would payback quicker.

I do not doubt you....but have been using these and the Fram HP4 and HP8 for years and never had an issue......
I even cut my Wix apart on the 66' after 2k to inspect the filter for shavings or weirdness.....nothing.
I like the racing filters because they flow better......on my Chevy's I block the filter adapter bypass with a 1/4" pipe plug.....this requires one use a better flowing filter......the bypass opens due to filter restriction.
I would run the HP8 Fram but they are impossible to get in town....
Filters are like Oils...lot of personal preference.....
I have to run the shorty..or else I would have a case of PF35L's laying around.

K&N HP2002 short version of the HP3002 used in my '81 due to header clearance. I purchased a Wix racing filter and I believe it actually had a warning on the box not to use on street vehicles if I remember correctly.

YEP...quite impressive...and if how much it costs is a concern...oh well. I guess that is how a person wants to justify it.

I look at what it is doing for the engine...and possibly no put on a chrome dress-up kit and faux braided hoses which do nothing....if I am worried about the money. Thousands of dollars spent on an engine.....I guess it is up to what people feel is important to them.

I get that...but many people will not do what you are doing...and take this filer at face value and think...I can use it.

I was just commenting so if people think that because it has 'RACING' on it...that it is actually the correct filter...I would advise them in calling the tech line of that specific manufacturer and find out for themselves.

People can use what they want. I do not have to warranty it...so I really don't care....its not my car to worry about. I am just simply passing along information that I took the time to find out for myself....whether it is used or not...is not my concern. I tried.

I've been using the Pure 1 filters for years on my bike, but couldn't find one for my '82 350. Does anybody know the correct Pure 1 number for our cars? I bought a Wix instead, but would like to go back at the next change.
