Hi, I have to remove the power steering pump to fix a leak that my mechanic told me it has. More or less I know how to remove it but I was wondering if anyone can help in finding out what type of chemical I need to buy to leave it clean as shown in figure 1. Also what type of paint do I need to leave it as it is shown in figure 2 and 3?
Thank you
david.
what chemical is required to clean it properly as shown?
what paint should I use to achieve this nice finished?

A semi gloss black Engine Enamel would be great.
You need a parts cleaner with some sort of solvent.....then spray down with brake cleaner and wipe with lacquer thinner so the paint will not fish-eye.
Do you need a seal kit....I bought one but ended up getting a new pump.....sell it to you Cheap$$$$....it is from Willcox.
Hi Jebbysan. i got a seal kit already...thank you anyway...now you gave me the idea...damn! a new power steering pump is very cheap... maybe its cheaper than getting lal the fricking chemicals etc...:0

I just got one complete for $110...$80 core.
Swap the pulley and go
I got this one from Gulf Coast Corvette but they are available from just about anybody.....
I AGREE...becasue when you remove the main reservoir...and IF it is dented...then there can be a high possibility that the large 'o' ring MAY leak when you get it all back together.
That large 'o' ring usually is what cases me to have to get another pump. I do them an fill it up and seal off the two ports and let it sit and HOPE it does not leak...because I do not have time taking it out and putting it back in. If it does not leak in 24 hours...I feel I am good to go.

I was going to restore my pump......I had made everything else look too nice. So I bought a seal kit and proceeded to remove the reservoir....forget it....stuck....besides...the original had a small dent up high.
Called up Billy at Gulf Coast...nice guy....he said he stocked them....which is nice because it is one day to me. I asked him how nice they were finished and he said they were a new reservoir...and rebuilt pump inside....rebuilt here in Texas...painted up in an original style satin black. I pulled the trigger. Got it and it is what he said it was.....
I do not even see how they can do it for that much.....
$80 core....the old one goes back in the box the new one came...bada bing.
Jebby,
Your pump has also been leak checked, test run, and had the line pressure set. Zip may also buy theirs from the same place that Gulf Coast does, but I can't confirm it.

Billy did say that....he said the rebuilder here in Texas does 70% of them out there and that it was a premium piece and he stands behind it....
He had me sold on it for sure....
Thanks for confirming that...always good to hear!
