I used the 5 LED bulb due to the length.

I am NOT concerned about any dimming feature......so another bulb may be needed if a person is wanting that feature.

My May 68 has ignition switch light.
It dims with the dimmer.
It is a 1895 bulb.
Most ignition switches are missing the black
cardboard curtain insert.
Go on eBay as I do not have a picture.
You will find the bulb holder snaps in as shown
In above pictures.
The curtain directs the light to the key way opening.
It doesn't come on when you open the door like modern cars. You need to pull the headlight switch on to the park position to illuminate the bulb.
It's primitive like the key buzzer.

Thanks, I was just about to ask how it illuminated without the key being in the ignition already or it being always hot and draining the battery.

I used LED for all of the bulbs on my new dash harness. Increased brightness, plus......if you "stretch" the wiring putting the dash panel back in, the LED are less likely to break than the fragile little glass bulbs. DUB mentioned in a previous post how hearing "tink!" as you were pushing the panel in place meant that a bulb had broken and fallen into the inside of the gauge. I got everything in place without breaking nary a one. RA

Mine dim nicely. I also installed a new light switch, since the rheostat in the old one felt "scatchy" and did not dim smoothly but cut out to no light at all, them came back on, no light, on, etc. RA
