I would tell you to look on the bottom right where the cover and the main housing bolt together for the code but it sounds like you looked everywhere............or almost everywhere

Your pictures show the casting numbers for the case and cover, casting dates, mold identifications, and shift clock.

Ok trac thanks what do u need to see and do u know how I can figure out what gear I got in there i supposedly got a 75 l82 but now I got a different rear end it looks like
Can't you just turn the input yoke by hand? See how many times you have to turn it to make the side yoke make one full turn. Let's say you turn the input 3 3/4 turns to make the side yoke go around one turn. 3 3/4 would be about a 3.73 rear gear. (Hope I got this right!)

It's a "143" carrier used between 63 and 78( I believe). If all you want is the ratio, just rotate the shafts and count the turns. Rotate the output shaft 10 turns (mark them with tape or chalk) and have a helper count the number of rotations the input shaft makes. You'll need a helper, because if you're like me, after about six revolutions you'll lose count and have to start over again!
You're close. 143 housings were used 67-79.
If I was to guess it looks like the cast date is 78. But it could also be 68.
Yes, you can figure out the gear ratio without pulling the rear cover. But there is a lot more to be learned with the cover off. Since the condition of the stub axles do not match the case I would want to know what's inside.
If it's a 68 does it still have the inferior small window carrier with the 10-18 spider gears? Three or four series or three series with a spacer? OEM gears or replacement? Wear pattern on gears?
If it's a 78 it will have better bearing caps and the desirable "297" carrier in it. But it will also have the 1/2" head ring gear bolts that come loose and fall out. Is the any case damage if any of the bolts did come out?
In either diff what is the condition of the cross shaft? Is the shaft bore "egg shaped"? Is the carrier cracked? Has it had water in it? How much wear on the clutches?
The cover need to be changed anyway because it's the wrong design for a 75.

The condition of stub shafts is because I had just cleaned up case with a wire brush and have not gotten to the shafts as of yet drained the oil out of thru weep hole getting ready to open it up check everything out
