'68 Shiter Ball Color
Is the color for a '68 4-speed shifter ball chrome or black? My replacement assembly came with a black one.

Hi TS90,
I believe the shifter **** used during the 68 model year was chrome plated, while the **** used in the 69+ model years was 'black' chrome.
Regards,
Alan

Hey Alan,
I happened to hit the back button and saw a posting I could answer correctly.

Thanks guys. I thought chrome was correct also. I had to order the later assembly due to issues with my trans.

68 shifters use a chrome ball.
The same chrome shifter ball is used on all 64-68 manual trans shifters. 69-82's use the same steel ball, as earlier shifters, but it is finished in black chrome, not silver chrome.

My March 68 is chrome (well used to be now kind of crusty):

I don't know why, but once you post a title, you're not allowed to change it. You can edit the text, but not the title.
