69 fm radio
According to what is left on my build sheet. One option my car came with was the fm radio option. My car didnt come with the radio (had some junk pioneer from the 80s). But it does have what I am guessing is the big amp mounted still up in the dash.
I was wondering. Where there any corvette years and or other models that a similar radio came from? I.E., would it be possible an impala, nova etc from 69 have the same radio? I figured it may be more likely to find one from a different model for a better price.
Also, where did these cars have their speakers located? Mine came with some of those self contained box speakers from the 80s.

The speakers are in the kick panel, I am sure someone will have better pix than me.

Hi,
The 69 (non stereo) radio used a convector mounted to the cowl.
I guess it's possible that a radio from another GM product may fit but I've not heard that.
Regards,
Alan

It does sound like he means the transistor that ignatz shows.
As for the radio itself, I don't think any other models used the same radio. But the 68-73 vette used the same radio but had 2 options available, a stereo version and a non stereo version. If you arent picky, any corvette radio from 68 to I think 75 or 76 would fit your car. They pop up occasionally in the parts section anywhere from $100-300. I bought a working one for my 75 with transistor for I think $200 shipped a few months ago.

The Corvette radio from 1968 to 1976 was unique to the Corvette. It was available in AM/FM Mono or Stereo. The main limiting factor is the space between the on-off/volume control **** and the station tuner ****.
1977 was the first year that Chevrolet used a "corporate" radio in the Corvette. This enabled the Corvette to be offered with an 8-track and in 1979 also with a cassette. Before that it wasn't practical to produce the 8-track or cassette radio in such limited numbers for the Corvette. Starting in '77 it became possible to swap a cassette deck from an Olds (etc.) into a Corvette by simply changing the pins in the plug on the back to work on your Corvette.
Good luck... GUSTO

If your tank sticker shows U69, the radio was AM. If it shows U79, you got the stereo.
68 and 69 mounted a 4x10 speaker behind each kick panel. Your AIM shows it.

I couldn't dig deep enough today to to get what I have in the dash .But I remember seeing a large finned device in dash when I was taking out my instrument cluster.
It was in their deep. I'm guessing no one ever would go in their for them when changing radios.
Anyways i do have a picture of my build sheet from my gas tank. It's actually still stuck to tank as I just cut the metal around the bad tank. There was not much left but it looks to say am/fm stereo push button? The only other option that I know of not shown on my pot build sheet is the ac. Thou cant really fake ac.
Sorry about typoes my sons took over all my computers. had to do this on phone.

The first pic is the AM/FM mono radio from '69, showing the correct green lettering. The second photo is a 1968 stereo unit with the larger transistor convector attached to it (on left, attached by thick black cable) and a smaller mono one sitting on top of the radio for comparison.

FWIW: the DS-501 transistors shown in the pics make up the final audio output of the 68-76 radios. You need one transistor for the mono radio since there is only one channel. For stereo sound, you need two transistors, one for the left channel and one for the right.
Check the U-79 in the options section of the 69 AIM. It will show you everything you need for the stereo installation and it includes the original part numbers.
The suggestion of removing the passenger's side dash pad is to see if the old original transistor set up might still be back there.
