Default Question for motor Monday.

Is it possible to move the alternator from the driver side to passenger side on 75 L-48? I no longer have A/C or smog pump and thought it would make getting to P/S pump a little easier. I see on some of the motors posted the alternator is on the passenger side.

You might try looking in the AIM at the different configurations for belts and pulleys. It will show you what you are looking for.

The issue is, I believe, the alignment of the belts. Most of the passenger side alternators use a long water pump, rather than the short version used in the corvette. The water pump and the crank pulley might have to be changed to make the belts line up properly. And the radiator fan and shroud may not fit. It seems like a lot of work just to access the P/S pump.

An alternator is pretty easy to remove if you need access to PS pp. If you did relocate it, you also have to be concerned with the associated wiring which will need attention. Imho, I wouldn't move the alt.

Yes you can relocate it to the other side. You will just need to get the proper brackets and pulleys. And of course extend the wiring.

If he ran a 1 wire alternator the wire would go to the positive on the battery. Thats not a big deal.

March makes all the brackets and pulleys you will need. I did it.

I don't understand why people just don't give the guy the information he was asking for instead of opinions.
