Default 1971 SB motor mounts

I removed the motor mounts and was surprised to see that the driver side mount is different than the passenger side mount. The parts place said that they should be the same. Is he correct?
Also, the new mounts are wider 2.75" (the part that slips over the frame horn) than the originals 2.5". I read some other posts that expressed the same width issue. These posts said that they had to try several places to find the correct width mounts.
Who has the correct mounts?
Thanks!

Mount should fit tight over the frame horn. If the originals were 2.5"wide between the ears of the mount, then that's what you need.

I like Corvette Central's mounts, installed them on my 1970 L46:

So there seems to be two styles out there. On RockAuto's web site the part#s are MT2285 and EM2249 Napa's are BK 6021127 and BK 6021104. My car has one of each. The 2249 on the driver's side and the 2285 on passenger side. Which is the correct model and is there any advantage of one over the other?
Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I suspect the mounts from Corvette Central are superior to both of those options, and they are very likely to fit perfectly on both sides.

For what it is worth:

Ever since GM stopped offering the engine mounts....I have always dreaded getting new engine mounts because even when I talked with ANCHOR who makes engine ,mounts...trying to find the CORRECT MOUNTS with the 2 1/2" width is almost impossible. SO...I will TRY and see if Corvette Central's are correct.

IF Corvette Central engine mounts are CORRECT...then I would buy them from them and not waste my time trying other places.

I believe Corvette Central advertises theirs as correct, and the width is 2 5/8". If you click on the link above, there is an additional link that discusses the mounts compared to options from other manufacturers:

As I said above, I replaced both mounts on my 1970 L46 with CC's mounts, and they went in just the way they were supposed to. They've been in there about 3 years so far, and they look like new (as they should). My originals were both trashed - one was completely separated.

Awesome pictures and a very clean example! I would love to see other pictures of the car. Thanks for your help. The mount in your pictures is from the passenger side and looks like what I took off of the passenger side of my car. The driver side mount looks like the model 2249 that I mentioned before. I am coming to the conclusion that someone replaced one of the mounts in the past and that is why the car has two different mounts. Thanks again!

You are correct. The width is 2 5/8". You have convinced me to look at CC's mounts. Thanks for you input!

Default Motor Mounts

Ecklers makes a heavy duty motor mount that is pretty nice.

I think you'll be happy with them if you go that route. They are a nice looking product.

You likely already know this, but just in case you don't yet––remember to run the front two plug wires on each side through the mounts when installing them, if you're still using a stock wire set-up. You might have to pop the boots off to get them through, I don't remember.

I don't believe you will find an EXACT as built reprodution motor mount. A friend had done some research a couple years ago and there were differences found. Detectable during judging. Not that these repo's won't sufficiently perform, just not identical.

I know I get SUPER PICKY at times...but for the life of me I still can not understand WHY a company can not make the motor mount with a 2-1/2" width. I have original GM one and they fit perfectly....and I know that it being 1/16" on each side to close in...the engine mount will more than likely collapse to be able to get tight and stay put....but...it still bothers me.

I reviewed CC's tech page regarding motor mounts. It is apparent that the mounts I removed were the locking version, CC's part#302005, from the passenger side and the non-locking version, CC's part #302004, from the driver's side. Is there anyway that it came from the factory this way? I am the third owner and I purchased it from a friend that owned the car starting in 1983. He says that he did not replace the motor mounts.
Thanks for everyone's input!

There's always a chance, sure, but it would be unlikely.

The driver's side mount is the one that deteriorates the fastest because of the torque of the engine (with the crankshaft turning clockwise). Someone likely replaced that mount with a non-locking one from a parts store or something at some point. GM changed to locking mounts in 1970 I believe. You really want the locking ones.

Nothing wrong with picky. So many of the replacement products available for our cars are subpar quality, it pays to be diligent.
