Help Me Settle A Bet-'69 Convertible Bare Shell Value
My buddy has had this old 'Vette in his garage for over twenty years since he parked it. 396 dual quad w/4 speed. It has been thoroughly butchered, IRS swapped for a 12 bolt, rear flares that don't match, crappy extended spoiler, '63 Buick Riviera tail lights, '82 front clip with no flares, square headlights. Teal paint! No A/C. Someone told him as it's a '69 convertible, just the tub(I guess he means birdcage and surrounding fiberglass) is worth ten grand. I say no way. Whole car probably not worth that.
Can't see how any of us can settle anything between you and your buddy, but it sounds to me like someone did not do him any favors by speculating on a value.
Even if something shouldnt be "worth" an amount based on a reasonable look at the market, it doesnt mean that one clueless guy with a checkbook wont pay double that.
a '69 vert shell (without quarters) and good frame/birdcage with legit bill of sale/title should be worth several thousand dollars. The dual quad 396 and 4 speed should bring another couple. A nice driver should bring 25-30K so chopping up a coupe body donor might make sense.
unless that 396 is a 4 bolt main with a original GM stamp pad its not worth all that much. what kind of 12 bolt is the rear? some are worth a whole lot more then others. I would say a body with a clear tittle is worth at least 10K
Does he have the vin and clear title? Non salvage? If most of the frame is there in good shape, the tub is good and throw in the parts, you are in the 10k neighhood...
He thinks just the tub, no frame, motor, interior, doors, nothing else, is worth 10K. Sure, there are fools out there who pay way too much for everything(got another buddy who lives in that world. To even things up, he sells every thing for pennies on the dollar!). I was just wondering what you guys who see what the going rate for 'Vette stuff is would think.
