Hi Jim,
I think j30 & Bill are right.
I believe it's the Anti Diesel/Fast Idle Solenoid.
The info I'm looking at states for the 69 model year it was used on certain 4-speed cars with the a/c option, and also on certain engines when the car had an automatic transmission.
You might see DR1114418 embossed on the body if it's an original, or DR1114421 if it's a service replacement.
Regards,
Alan
Whoa, it must ahve come with my car in a box when i bought it. I do have a disconnected AC system and 4 speed car. Ill check the numbers on it tonight. I am glad I didnt throw it away. I probably want to put it back on, wherever it may go.
Hi Jim,
I believe for Q-jet engines the bracket mounted at the front left carburetor attaching bolt, while for Holley tri-power engines the bracket appears to be different than what's in your picture… does your engine use a Q-jet?
Regards,
Alan
I have no idea if this is connected correctly but it's mine installed on an original ('74) Q-jet. It is a 4spd but no A/C. Found it in my box of parts that came with the car. Hooked it up to a 12 volt supply with key on (in other words, I'm using it as a throttle stop). Have a great day/week, Bill

Reason: Add info
I didnt find any numbers on the poor thing. I doubt will put it it back on for a while. AC belt is off the car currently. Its on my list to check and fix.
EDIT- on further inspection I did find DR -1114XXX the last numbers are not visible due to oxidation. The first letters were protected by the bracket.
thanks for the help. Interesting device. I assume when the ac is on it bumps up the idle a little bit so it doesnt stall?
