Im trying to get the carpet padding installed in the rear of our 72 vert! I ordered a padding set from Ecklers, and could not figure out how it fit. They were not any help in figuring this out. So I ordered another set from Keen-and its the same patterns. Still can't figure it out!
I am attaching a scan from the instructions as to where the pieces go...It goes beyond my understanding!
Can anyone give me some insights on how these pieces fit together?

Which pad set part number did you order?
There is a bunch of carpet installation info on the 1972 cars on our facebook page. This details how we sent original carpets to ACC so their molds could be changed to make them correct. I'll see if I can dig up a link for you later tonight.
I'm pretty sure I can help you but you have to remember.... People often confused the deaden-er in the car with padding because it often stuck to the back of the original carpet when removed.. This was due to the tar like mastic backing it was made from.
So carpet manufacturers started putting "Pad" on the backs of the carpet sets and when you combine this with an additional padding your going to get a bad fit and confusion.
I'll be home later tonight and see if I can dig you up some pictures of how my original car was when we removed the carpet. There is also a good thread at this link that documented the rear T sections but what is nice is there are some really awesome pictures from others in there too.. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...68-1977-a.html
Hi r,
I don't see the 'scan' you mentioned so don't know what you're facing. Seeing what you have may get you some good suggestions from folks that have done it.
Generally installing the carpet and underlayment in the rear compartment is quite a bit of work to do well.
Pics of what you have in front of you?
Regards,
Alan

The pad from Ecklers is their part number 123643
The number from keen is 203 280396
They are of different material, but the shapes of the material are the same...Its the shapes and where they go that baffles me!? I have the shapes scanned in on another post on this thread...
If you wish to install what you have.. here is how it lays down... This picture is on our tech/repair page http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/
But.. what I will tell you and the same reason I'm transferring the file to my home computer.. is your car would not have used all that deadener. Some of it but not all..

Hi W,
It must take a bit of work to get the carpet to lay smoothy over that!?!
Regards,
Alan
Alan-
Oddly this is from the 1968 original car we did... and it will lay down a bit better after it's massaged a bit.
The 1972 (and I'm not 100 percent positive so I was looking for backup) cars did not use deadner on the rear well humps! I've searched for over an hour of the pictures of my original but I'm on a virtual connection and it's wearing on me... it will have to wait.
The rear T section on the 1972 had deadner attached to the deadener and that was it. So.. if his carpet set is ACC the rear humps are 100 percent correct (made from my original car) and the op will have a fit issue with them. They'll fit and lay down but they will take a bit more work to install than just leaving the deadner off the hump.
I wish I could find the pictures and I'm sure I will tomorrow but for now it's the best I can do.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! I am attaching a few pictures of our project. It wasn't quite a barn find, but not too much from it! The end goal is to have a nice driver. Ill keep this updated as things move along....
Hi w,
Here's the underlayment from my 71 coupe rear wheel-well.
Regards,
Alan
Underside of left side underlayment laying in position on underside of left side rear wheel well carpet. Note slit for quarter trim mount bracket, hole for shoulder belt reel mount, and hole for plenum drain hose.
Underlayment for carpet on on compartment floor and rear bulkhead.
Why not install the storage area carpet first.....then you will have knowledge as to how the carpet/backing needs to be handled in order to make it fit smoothly.
Then......the front carpet will be easier to fit into place.
I also need to install new carpet but am resisting the urge until I get the undercarriage and exterior work done. This is a convertible so I'm trying to keep carpet clean as long as possible, but the carpet will give me a sense of moving ahead and will certainly look a lot nicer. Phil
