shifter locating gauge

this tool locates the shifter in neutral. once everything is connected do you remove the tool or leave it in? sounds like a dumb question right.

For a stock Muncie shifter you must remove the tool after you adjust the linkage.

my shifter is very rough on shifting like the shifter links are corse feeling.cant get into reverse also. tranny is new and can be shifted by hand fine. i can connect the links and it will shift. when not connected the shifter moves fine, just rough when linkage is connected.

Yes , it is just for alignment of the shifter arms . If it is the plastic ones grease it before installing it to make it easier to remove . The plastic tends to stick.

are you aware that since reverse in not synchronized it states in the owners manual you should engage a forward gear before attempting to shift into reverse. When you replaced/rebuilt the transmission did you disassemble, clean, and lubricate the shifter?
