I have a 74 (A/C removed) but I have no idea what decal you are referring to.

Can you be more specific.

Thanks Ken, I know there is a decal for the air cleaner, AC compressor, heat exchanger, and probably a couple more I don't know about. The only decal on my car is the one on the cowl right in front of the driver, with timing and emissions info. I would like to get the car back to OEM as possible and would like to get these back in place.

If you look at any Corvette parts vendor catalog, you will find a butt load of different decals that go in specific places. Would an assembly manual show these decals? I guess not, because most of these decals would have been applied by the part manufacturer?

I get you now.

Sorry, most of my decals are gone also and I have no intention of putting them back on.

Good luck with your search.

The assembly manual will show where the decals go. If it is the emission decal information, and the one that I am thinking of, it should go above the brake booster, near the spring for the hood latch release.
This has a big flat area for that decal.

As KDF said, you should order an AIM for your car. Oh, and FYI, when you get it, use the "find" feature in Acrobat Reader and look for "Label" "Sticker" "Decal" etc. There are a few names in the AIM for our '77.

Or, do what the factory assemblers did: "That's close enough!"

(I'm constantly amazed by these questions on detail. The AIM drawings were a REFERENCE position....so that the decal/label got on the right part. )

Agreed. The AIM was the reference tool used on the assembly line. The placement would vary some because they were put on by hand. But the OP asked for placement advice and the AIM would provide that for him about multiple decals/stickers throughout the car. It's a handy tool to be used for reference as it was when it was new.

The AIM will show the installation of some of the labels, but not all. Anything that came to St. Louis pre-assembled, would have already had the labels attached.

The AC compressor, heater/evaporator box and air cleaner, all had their labels in place, when they were installed, so the AIM does not show their placement.

1) The Frigidaire compressor label is centered on the top of the compressor, reading from back to front. So the top of the label with "Frigidaire", is toward the rear of the compressor, and it reads going forward toward the pulley.

2) The Harrison evaporator label is placed on the front of the heater box, to the right of the seam, and about half way between the upper and lower evaporator tubes. It was placed with the top of the label, and the "Harrison" name to the left, and the label read inward toward the engine.

3) The air cleaner "Keep Your GM Car All GM" label was centered on the driver's side of the air cleaner base.

4) The emission/tune up label is installed on the flat area of the firewall, just above the master cylinder.

5 ) An orange "Engine Coolant Only" label was installed on the overflow tank, near the coolant cap. It was placed on the curved edge of the tank, near the cap, and with the word "Warning" positioned up towards the cap.

6) There was also a coolant label on the fan shroud. It was installed on the flat, curved, passenger side of the shroud, nearest the fan, about 1 1/2" off the center line of the shroud. It was positioned so that the top of the label was forward on the shroud.

The emission label, and two coolant labels, were installed at St. Louis, and their installation is shown in the AIM.

There were also two labels on the driver's side door, a tire pressure label, and a Federal Certification label. The Certification label was placed just above the door latch, and the tire label was centered roughly between the door latch and weatherstrip.

Finally, there were three labels in the interior of the 74, a starting procedure label, the jacking instructions and a fuel recommendation label. The starting instructions were installed on the top of the driver's side sun visor, so they they were visible only when the visor was flipped down. The jacking instructions were installed on the underside of the right rear compartment door, the one over the jack. The fuel label was installed on the underside of the locking center door in the rear compartment, but I think this label was eliminated during the 74 model year.

The positioning of the Certification, tire pressure, starting procedure jacking instructions and fuel labels, should all be in the 74 AIM.

Hi gb,
VERY nice list and description!
I agree that the information in the AIM about the placement of of the labels/stickers can certainly be used as a GUIDE to their location.
If the engineers had wanted the labels to be placed in an exact position I'd think the AIM drawings would have contained locating dimensions similar to those used, for example, in the locating of the LT-! decals on the hood.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks gbvette62, your info is exactly what I'm looking for. My car is missing all the decals mentioned except for the emissions tag by the master cyclinder. I thank you for your response.

These are the labels I have in my engine compartment. Only the emissions label has been replaced. This is a 74 big block.

Looks like I have some work to do.

Thanks lastbigblock, the pics are very helpful. I believe it's the little stuff in details that makes a car stand out from the rest, that's why I'm interested in the placement of these decals. After a good cleaning and paint touch up, new decals make everything "Pop"
